Windows brightness control software

Brightness app

Brightness Control

A Windows brightness control application with a simple slider interface for every connected display.

  • Brightness control for Windows displays
  • Simple, slider-based interface
  • Fast, direct download straight from this site
  • Suits managed or policy-restricted PCs
  • One-click install, clean uninstall

Independent application

Twinkle Tray

A separate application with per-monitor brightness sliders in the system tray.

  • Brightness slider for each detected display
  • External monitor control over DDC/CI where supported
  • Multiple-monitor support in one panel
  • Convenient system tray workflow
  • Free and open source

These are two separate applications. Both download directly from this site.

Before you download

  • Confirm you are running Windows 10 or Windows 11 on a 64-bit PC.
  • Note whether you want the classic installer or a Store-style package, if both are offered.
  • Confirm your monitor is connected directly rather than through an untested adapter.
  • Enable DDC/CI in the monitor menu if the option exists.

After installing

  1. Look for the new icon in the notification area near the clock.
  2. Open the panel and confirm each display is listed.
  3. Drag a slider and check the picture responds.
  4. Set up keyboard shortcuts if you want brightness keys on a desktop.
  5. Enable start with Windows so the tray icon is always available.

If a display does not appear

Missing displays are almost always a hardware path issue rather than an application bug. Work through fixing external monitor brightness on Windows, which covers cables, docks, monitor menus and drivers.

Looking at the alternative

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I download Twinkle Tray?

From the Download button on this page. The file starts straight away, with no redirect step in between.

Does the download cost anything?

No. Twinkle Tray is free and open source.

Which Windows versions does it support?

Windows 10 and Windows 11. It controls the internal laptop panel as well as external monitors that support brightness over DDC/CI.

Do I need to uninstall other brightness tools first?

It is worth doing. Two utilities sending brightness commands to the same monitor can fight each other and produce jumpy results.
