Twinkle Tray on Windows 10
Windows 10 puts brightness in the Action Center for laptop panels only. Twinkle Tray adds per-display sliders, which matters most on desktops and older multi-monitor setups.
Tray icon setup on Windows 10
Right-click the taskbar, open Taskbar settings, then Select which icons appear on the taskbar, and enable the Twinkle Tray entry. That keeps the slider a single click away instead of behind the overflow arrow.
Older hardware considerations
- Monitors from the early 2010s are less consistent about DDC/CI, and some ship with it disabled.
- DVI and older HDMI cables carry the control channel, but tired cables and adapters cause odd behaviour.
- Legacy graphics drivers can report displays incorrectly; update them before troubleshooting further.
- If a monitor never responds, use its own buttons plus a software dimmer.
Windows 10 versus Windows 11 behaviour
